They list a student reimbursement program on their new updated website. They were advertising for students just a few months ago, I guess if you called them and they said no, they maybe on hold due to lack of trainers or just hire from certain schools.

I just saw that, that must be very new. I talked to a recruiter there a few months ago and they said they dont hire recent grads. guess things have changed, I will call em again and see what they have to say. thanks!

Don't know who you spoke with, but GTI has hired students for years. I hired in right after CDL school in 2009. The exception is for those who are residents of Washington. Washington state will has disallowed the overtime exception granted under federal regulations. CDL grads are out with a trainer for 28 days and are paid a stipend ($350.00 a week I believe).Injun Thanks this.

GTI offered me a job five years ago, before I even got my Class A license. They do hire noobs and, as said above, have a tuition assistance program. I do not know the ins and outs of it, though. It's been a while ago. From what I recall, you work for them for a certain amount of time and they reimburse you up to $5,000 for whatever school you went through, even if it was a rival trucking company.

I just chatted with a GTI recruiter about 10 minutes ago on line. You have to have your CDL, but they do take new drivers. A month out on the road with a trainer. I live in Indianapolis, so they would be a good possibility for me. He also told me that tuition reimbursement is up to $4000.00.
Injun and customtanks Thank this. -
I was hired out of school last year by gordon. I went out with a trainer for 28 days got $200 when i got on the truck with the trainer and got another $200 when i got my first load as far as bonuses. They do pay my school loan, they pay up to 166 a month or like 700 bucks every quarter if you want it that way, but yeah its like $4000 is you say on for like 3 years. Also its like 325 a week you get paid when you are with the trainer.

I'm thinking of doing the CDL school thing too, maybe. Instead of locking in under some kind of contract.

If you choose to become an indentured servant you will limit your options and have an opportunity to personally experience nearly every horror story you've read on this forum. If there is any way to get your cdl from a third party school, not controlled by a carrier, it is the best choice.ddsindy Thanks this.

Got mine from Swift and then worked for them for a year. I guess I must lead a charmed life. I don't recall anyone treating me like an indentured servant. In fact, I still have all my natural teeth.
All seriousness, though. If you don't have $4K or more to plop down to get your CDL, going through a company may be your only option. If this is the case, do your research and choose a company that will be the best fit. All companies, large and small, have their own brand of BS. You just have to figure out what flavor suits you best.ddsindy Thanks this.
