JB Hunt has ruined my 33 year accident free career with a Preventable "Collision-Hit Stationary Object" . Drove away from fuel Island taking the right nozzle with me. The nozzle was returned but the truck stop is still claiming $165 in damages. I offered to pay for the damage but was told no. I understand the situation couldn't be ignored, but How on earth can a fuel nozzle be considered a stationary object?

Man I'm sorry they're so hard nosed.
That's JB all right... -
Sorry this happened to you, but to answer your question:
Of course the nozzle is stationary. It was not placed with the intention of being "mobile" and is not "mobile" by definition (except within its range of operation, being the length of hose and nozzle combined).
Try not to let it get you down too much. 33 years is #### good, and I congratulate you for it.mtnMoma Thanks this. -
Bhvc, 33 year accident free!!!!!! That is quite an impressive record. Dont let them fools get to you. Your an example that other drivers should look up too.
-
Was JB Hunt driving the truck? NO! Did mister 33 years of safety do a walk around? NO! So why are you blaming JB Hunt?
Why is it no one wants to take responsibility for their own action or lack of actions.
Grow some and admit you screwed up. We have all done it.captw900 Thanks this. -
Ok, If this was a Jubitz at pump 6,here's the rest of the story.
I was there to fuel right after this happened. Well almost 1 hour acording to their pump records.
I was pulling up to the pump when i see the right side hose laying on the ground without a noozle.
So I pull to pump 5 and fuel.
I then went in and paid.
I asked why do you not have pump 6 blocked off?
They were like huh?
Noozle missing I replied.Well they look and yep it's gone.
So they pull up the records and see it was a J.B. trk. that did it.
They were on the phone calling J.B. with unit number and time it happened.
Ok fast forward. I return like 2 days later and ask what did J.B. say about the noozle.
They started laughing.
Well they said the driver's name.
Said he brought back the noozle. I said wel at least he caught it. No they replied, it was the other driver doing his pre-trip insp who saw it.
He asked the other guy,What happened. Huh? was the reply I was told.
So this guy drives off and drops trk. at yard for the next guy to take over. They are running day cabs on a local run.
First driver must of just got out of trk. and walks away.
So the next guy doing his pre-trip see's the handle and takes it back to the trkstp..
Who is wrong here?
The company to fire a driver on a what I would call a hit and run or the driver for not checking the fuel line on right hand side.
Oh the pump lever was still in the on position on that side.
You be the judge.
Me I think they were right to charge him
Hit and run. Failing to report an accident and not doing a post trip insp...mtnMoma Thanks this. -
IF (and I want to emphasize that word) the above is the true story, then dismissal is probably warranted.
Waiting for OP to fill us in..... -
Actually the hose is suppose to have a break away on it. Next time you fuel look at the hose. You'll see a metal band that looks like a splice. It's a quick disconnect that is ball bearing and spring loaded with a check valve. A driveaway, it is suppose to pop apart right there to prevent the pump from being yanked out of the ground. There is suppose to be no damage.
I'd fire right back and say they had defective equipment.
Don't let it bother you bhcv. That's a mishap, not an accident. 33 clean years behind you your company should of been pulling for you instead of trying to punish you. Sounds like a jerk.
They want to get technical, you didn't hit anything. Hit means impact. You were already connected to it.
If they were out there giving you full service like they should, it would of never happened.
I'd make a good jailhouse lawyer. I don't want to find out, lol.. -
33 years accident free is awsome and a testament to your skill. However, it can't and shouldn't buy you a pass on this one. It sucks, but it would be no different for a noob with 33 days on the job. Good luck to you, and may you have another 33 years accident free.
mtnMoma Thanks this. -
Well it did break at the break away from what I saw.
Pump noozles are not cheap.
Plus they could go with the lose of revenue part while the pump was down..
165 bucks, well that sounds fair..
Maybe if he caught it before HE DROVE OFF THE LOT
They might of let him pay out of pocket and never reported it.
Who knows?mtnMoma and zentrucking Thank this.
