Went to check fluids in truck, I've had the truck a couple months, pulled the plug on the front rear and had about a half a spoon of fine metal flakes. This one also runs about 25 degrees hotter than the rear rear. Any thoughts on what could be going bad, what could be done to keep from it going out or preventitive fixes at this point? No other symptoms going on. Thought about adding some lucus to it to slow down any wearing going on. Any input appreciated. Supposedly fluid was changed bout 50 k ago. Thanks

Check for play in the pinion/yoke where tailshaft joins. Additives r always a hot topic, some use them some dont, I do use them and swear by certain types. I would be putting in Molybdenum, just find a product at a auto shop that has it in and can be used in oil (engine, gearbox, diff)

IS it metal "flakes" or metal grit? The fine sandy grit is normal. If its flakes and or hair like metal shavings then thats a sign of problems ahead.

Is the new lubricant the correct type? Wrong lube can do that..

If the bearings are wore, the gears will be out of alignment. I'd pull the axles and inspect the outer bearings/ axle splines and see what they look like.

Hey i no lube cant do it all but i switched To 85 140 and seems to really slow wear and tear in hot weather. But i think with the heavier weight oil it might run hotter? Wont dissapte heat as fast?
