I love working here. The training is topnotch. Before I showed up for orientation I had never even been in a rig before... Now I have a class A CDL and the knowledge to safetly drive something weighing up 80,000 pounds. The training is one-on-one, you dont sit in a class room for 3 weeks staring at a board, you spend 3 weeks out on the road doing the job learning in the real world. Far better than just sitting around hoping for a chance to drive.
Not sure about the tanker yankers... Never even spoke to one in SPRINGMO lol They keep to the northeast mainly.
DA1, atleast I did leave and come back... Its not like I was there 3 straight weeks... lol -
We think it's pretty good. I got my CDL through a third-party school, and finished training with Prime. If I'd known about Prime's PSD school before and after seeing how the program works from the inside, I'd rather have done the entire thing with Prime.
We had one tanker yanker that used to post with us... but it's been well over a year since I saw him on the boards. I think its a case of they just don't wanna socialize with anyone who doesn't pull a tank!

OTOH, they are kept pretty busy from what I know... -
I did the same as IP... got my CDL at a local school (the one featured in the sticky on the Trucking School forum in fact) & then came to Prime.... been here since March... no complaints yet.

What will be the effect on prime when the Mexican truckers and companys start coming into the U.S. ? Do you think they will move to mexico?
-
Does anyone have a picture of the light trucks? Years ago i was on a dedicated account pulling beer out Columbus, OH. We ran Freightliner Argosy's they were small and light with one small bunk and one drive axle. I don't think they make them any more. I liked the it, although it was half a truck..

I don't think that a large part of our business on the reefer side is based on trade across the Mexican border. While I have pulled loads out of both Laredo and Nogales (on our side,) they were only a couple of the many trips that I have run. The affect of Mexican trucking will be felt by other carriers more than at Prime, IMO. That being said, I also don't think that there are hoards of Mexican drivers just waiting to flood into the US - they're already here.
Prime move to Mexico?
Now that thar's funny! How are you gonna get a Missouri boy to move to Mexico?? -
Thanks, ironpony. Their program does look impressive. I really don't have several thousand dollars sitting around for CDL Training.
Prime has flatbed, reefer, and tanker? You train in the reefer division?
Thanks again! -
For PSD you can train in either reefer or flatbed. Though most instructors are reefer drivers.
Your training phase is where you will move onto a reefer or flatbed trainer. -
IMO, you're much better off keeping your cash. I paid for my CDL school, and while it had certain advantages, I think those would be totally outweighed by the additional wheel time you'd get in PSD.
Yup. Tanker and flatbed are smaller units than the reefer division. Train? Nope... I only run solo.crazy4chrome Thanks this.
