Can some of you help me out. My husband has had his CDL for a little over 5 years now. He has in some way had a "driving" job ever since he got his CDL - so he has 5 years of experience driving. He has worked local for the past 3 years though, and he has done a few OTR trips for the local company, but techincally we are finding out they are considering him to only have about 8-9 months of verfiable OTR experience. So, do you know of companies that will hire someone who already has a CDL but doesn't have 1 year OTR experience .... ??? Thanks. Does he just need to look for companies that have trainers that he will have to go out with or what? Since he's not technically considered a student but I guess he's not considered experienced to them either?

5 yrs exp with last 3 yrs local right ? but they are only saying 8-9 months. thats for money reasons there. they pay less with under a year exp. and treat you differently too. with that amount of exp he needs to do some more searching, they are out there. try LTL companies and beverage distributors. not the big ones but the smaller ones, they seem to pay better. if you got a farmers market near by that is also another good place to look. they pay good .

Yes, he only drove OTR for about 9 months total before taking a local job for the last 3 years, but he's been driving a truck the whole time including dry vans, drop decks, dump trucks, and did make a couple of out of state trips for this local company but nothing major.

When he first got his CDL while he was looking for a job he did drive OTR but it wasn't a big rig, it was in a van hauling train conductors to other states, so I guess that doesn't count since it wasn't in a truck.

We live in a small town and I don't know if there will be any of those type of companies, so I will check though. Just hopefully they will pay what we must have in order to survive! That's the only reason he's looking to go back OTR, is for the money...
