Hey guys - The company I just started working for makes products for the heavy trucking industry and we're doing a bit of research to figure out if there's anything that we can produce to make your lives easier or make you more money?

We've made security products before in the past and those have worked well, but who knows, maybe the next million dollar idea is out there and we just don't know about it yet.

    Thanks
    Scott

For starters you could invent a truck that can sprout wings..:biggrin_25525:

Well... With some of the recent CA fuel mileage requirements, I wouldn't be so surprised to see aerodynamic elements on trucks here in the near future.

Actually that's not a bad idea to incorporate lift into a truck. If you could do it in a controlled setting, you could cut the truck's weight in half and still maintain control. Or trucks could haul double the weight. Then highway construction could be cut in half and save the country billions. Problem is it would take skilled drivers. Something the industry is currently lacking.

I had repeated dreams as a kid about trucks that could fly. That's a little far fetched, but you shape the trucks aerodynamics similar to a wing or have little 3'-4' retractable wings. :)

Some inventions come from wild ideas.

The tractor/trailer still have mass even though you've reduced the force on the tire contact patch. This will drastically increase your stopping distance and decrease cornering stability. Seems good in theory but in reality it is going to cause problems.

    C-130 is a flying truck.

Current version can carry near 50,000lbs of cargo.

    So it has been built.

Have the lift is based on speed. Design it where it didn't begin until 65 mph or have the brakes instantly disrupt the lift.
Yes there would greater stopping distance and would require a special driver. :)

    It's fun to dream though.

right side mirrors convexed at the right edge - to see better during blind-side backing

Sonic emitters facing forward so the car in front of you you knows they cut in too close

    12vdc air conditioning

    solar panels

tilt the windshield back for better aerodynamics

    a window washer that works

electric windshield heaters that don't 'run-ya-outta-the-truck'

a sleeper that an engineer has actually had to live in for a week

adjustable suspension while parked so you don't have to sleep on an angle

an air-actuated canvas boot between tractor and trailer
