I'm not going to waste your time with a lot of pointless b******* on the way the company has been treating me, so I'll get right to the point. can they force me to team with a smoker. I used to smoke but have quit yrs ago and can't stand smoke. I haven't been diagnosed with any allergies, mainly due to the fact I haven't been to a dr in years but it stops up my nose and makes my eyes water to the point that I can't see very well at all. Is it legal to force me to team with a smoker? If I refuse to do so can they fire me over it?

It depends on whether your state is a "Right to Work" state or not. In these states, you can be let go for any, or no reason. In most cases, companies try to make teams that will work well together. Smoking is a big deal. However. You may sit for quite a spell before a non-smoking team mate has been found for you.your

In this day, most companies try to match up smokers or non smokers. When I was a driver trainer in the mid 90's, and the carrier I was with tried to match up non smokers. But, each carrier has different ideas on how to do things.

My carrier has smoking and non-smoking trucks. If you're caught smoking in a non-smoking truck, you're terminated...zero tolerance.

I requested a list of non-smokers when I was with a team only company. So guess what I got? A chewer who didn't care enough to clean up behind himself, I would get up to spit cups in the cup holders and spit running down the inside and outside of the drivers window. I dumped the moron after about two months for this and a whole list of other crap. The next guy a got was also a chewer but he spit in a pop bottle, kept a cap on it and never left it sitting around. We got a long fine for 6 months, and are still friends. I think there are worse things than smokers, but that's just me.

If they were real truck drivers, they wouldn't need to spit.

I don't think there's official rules on teaming smokers/non smokers. I have heard of people claiming the truck is an "office" and must follow that states rules on no smoking in the workplace etc. But, the truck goes to many states, right ? So, the best you can hope for is smokers courtesy. He'll only smoke with the window down or while outside the truck, IF he is courteous. OR, he'll say screw it, I smoke, deal with it. In that case, light up a pungent cigar !

Personally, I hate being around rabid anti-smokers, redheads, blondes, brunettes, non-truckers, new truckers, wannabe truckers, fat people, skinny people, exercise nuts, lazy people, left-handed people, people who don't believe "trucker stories"... the list is endless. So if you're one of the above Geddaheckawayfrumme.

In other words; the trainer/company is doing you a freakin favor by training you atall. You are owed Jacks---!!! That truck is your trainer's home. You are only a guest there

Yeah, I'm being sarchastic here..... mostly. I do understand the 'medical prob" and all. But don't whine like they owe you your environment of choice. They don't.

He didn't say he needed training though.
