I had a plug in coleman also and it lasted about 2 years. Got it replaced with the same thing and it has lasted about 3 years so far. Like bbmyls2go said, you need to keep the fan free of dust an debris.

So do you put them in the compartment where the old fridge was? Do you think that our problem is a ventilation problem? Just wondering.

Well keeping it well venalated will keep your food colder especially in the summer time. But since you have had two of them burn up on you I would think that it is more likely to be a problem with plug its self. You can probably get someone with a meter to test the plug and see how much juice it's putting out.

Try going to WalMart and buyng a small fridge 4.7CF or smaller. And run it with a 4000W inverter.
Wth the wires getting hot as you described sounds like it was pulling too much amperage for the wires. 12VDC accessories pull an incredible amount of amps, while 110VAC do not if matched to the proper size inverter hooked directly to the battery bank.

Thanks for the suggestion, we actually did that when we first bought the truck. Bought a nice little dorm fridge to put in there, and when we got home with it and tried to fit it in that space it was about two inches to wide. I was bummed to say the least. We have the inverter already, just need the right size fridge, that doesn't burn up plugs.

I believe you about the pulling amps after seeing the plugs.:biggrin_2554:

I bought the Igloo, works great....tried the dorm fridge from Wal-Mart, worked great with my 800w inverter, just too noisy. The compressor has a metal ball in it or something that. Back to my Igloo 12v. Once I get my Freightliner, I am gonna see about getting a real 12 fridge. Eating out of the truck saves TONS of $$$.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think that we are stuck with the 12V options. How did you fit the dorm fridge in there? Ours wouldn't fit without cutting the compartment.
