Soooo True !!!!!

Safety is up to the driver, you only as safe as you want to be. The company will ask you to drive in all sorts of unsafe environments, its up to the driver to say yes or no when it comes to safety.
But what kind of safety are you asking about, vehicle worthiness is the only thing i can think of and again thats on the driver. No one puts a gun to your head to drive unsafely.

One guy on this forum has said he has been
verbally abused by his dispatcher for not
driving fast enough in hazardous conditions.
Another woman on here said that her company
has a dedicated safety department willing to
tell-off the dispatcher on her behalf once she
tells them the conditions are not safe.
I would strongly prefer the latter. -
Some companies demand that you use snow chains.
Some companies demand that you DON'T !!!!! You park until conditions improve. -
Yes, dispatchers do that, thats when you call safety or use the qualcomm to communicate, if the dispatcher is dumb enough to send a threatening message via qualcomm then I would take it to the nearest DOT office and report them. you dont want to work for this company anyways.
But the dispatcher is not the one driving the vehicle and while he may say whatever they want to the driver is still the boss of that truck. -
You're splitting hairs and listening to truck driver stories for which you will never have all the facts.
The first driver could have been driving 20 MPH when 45 MPH was safe. He could have been hanging out in the truck stop when he should have been driving.
The second person could have been exaggerating about the saftey issue or the handling of same issue.
Every company is concerned about safety. They are also concerned about profit. The order of importance of these items is dependent upon what department you are communicating with and the particular situation. You will be as safe as you make yourself.
You won't find the facts in FMCSA scores or safety awards. I believe there are much more important company issues and traits that you should concentrate on. You find a good company and then you operate safely.Yatista and Tyler Durden Thank this. -
With all due respect, based on your many threads, you should consider whether trucking is for you. You are looking to do things your way in a perfect environment. This is not what trucking is about. It is about making sacrfices for some degree of freedom and an above average living once you pay your dues.
You will be expected to run miles often in less than ideal conditions. While you should never operate above your skills or comfort level, if they don't increase quickly someone will replace you that can get the job done.
Just like any job, you will be expected to go above and beyond. In this industry that often means taking calculated risks. I am not saying to operate in an unsafe or illegal manner but you will operate to the edge of your abilities or someone else will take your place.
