yes you can, but you have to secure the trailer at an approved location.

    Texas2Colorado and DenaliDad Thank this.

Question: If for some reason you fail to make a couple of payments, what happens? Does Stevens take the truck back and relieve of your job? Take the truck back and revert you to a company driver, like another company I know does? Something else?

You cannot 'fail' to make your payments. Stevens controls the accounting.
So your statement will show how much you've earned, less the expenses (including the lease payment), then your net payout.
Now if you don't run enough miles to make the expenses, you just get zero payout. You can go in the hole, but it's very unusual, and they just work it out over time.
I've never heard of them taking a truck back against the drivers desires.

Good info. I hope other L/O's chime in, too. I wonder why the Steven recruiter won't answer that same question. I've asked several times, on the phone and by email.

I wonder which would be worse or preferable...getting a $0 paycheck or being changed to a company driver and getting paid for all those miles but losing the L/O status.

The recruiter probably just doesnt have the info on that leaseing aspect of the business. Their job is to get you to Stevens as a company driver. It takes a few months before you would be able to lease so the Recruiters dont really get trained on that much. Just basics.

what maxwelltie said is right. and if you get in the hole yiour business manager will talk to you and help you figure out why your in the hole and help you work out of it. If you just cant "get" it you always have the option to switch back to being a company driver. I suppose if you got TO far in the hole they may force you to, but I would think you would choose to before that point yourself.

Good help, all. Thank you! The "not getting it" is probably why they try to put those who think they want to leas with an Alliance trainer AND make you wait 60 days after training to sign a lease.

Do they give preferential treatment to lessees?

You are hired BEFORE you go out with ANY trainer.
The O-2 trainer will 'recommend' you for Grad Fleet, just as the O-1 trainer will sign off that you're ready for O-2.
No one is telling any DM what to do with you.

    Texas2Colorado Thanks this.
