At Central Ref you can train after 6 months experience if you meet certian qualifications. Like no accidents, no tickets and other things like that. You also have to be a O/O to train. They do have a class you have to go to but I don't know how long it is I think only one or two days. Still some of the trainers are just in it to get the miles and the money so they don't train well at all just use the noob as a free driver to make money for them.
Who train's the TRAINER ?

From what I've read about trainers on this forum(not all, but for the most part), I'm glad WS didn't have us go out with a trainer...10 days of orientation then they handed us the keys, said good luck, be on time and try not to hit anything!
123456, The Challenger and Everett Thank this. -
I could be remembering this wrong, but I started out with Schneider in '03, and I think they required a minimum of three years experience to train, but most of them had over five years. I was in the "Specialized" glass-hauling/flatbed division, so it may have been a little different there than on the van side. My trainer had been with Schneider for over ten years at the time.

We have only one "trainer" and he is about as useless as they come.

what takes 10 days? -
Its no wonder that the trucking industry is in an out of control tail spin..
Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
There is no guarantee that a ton of experience will make a driver a good trainer either. There are way too many drivers that barely qualify as human, let alone would make a good trainer.
Interesting how much education it takes to be a Kindergarten teacher, or a barber or beautician, and all of the certifications, but darn near none to train a newb with 80K and hazmat. -
Not much, some classroom basics, driving tests, equipment familiarity, videos but mainly company policies, procedures and paperwork...Probably could be done faster...My actually orientation was only 8 days(including weekend where we did nothing) due to proximity to Thanksgiving so only 6 actual days...

5 years here...most of our locations have 10-20 year vets that train. Our newer locations that are "blossoming" usually require the 2 senior drivers to train and the manager gets out and trains as well. 1 week in the truck and 1 week following. Turn'em loose.
