With the little rain they've received and hot temps, I'm sure it didn't take much to ignite...

It's been so dry, everything is just waiting for an excuse to light up. Dimes to donuts, someone tossed their butt out the window. When the wildfires were close to home (fires, 5 mi away, smoke on top of the house), and we were evacuated, there were some pretty high end rumors that someone was restarting them on purpose....

Texas is about 60% short of their average rainfall for the year...couple that with 40 or so consecutive days over 100 degrees in Dallas and you've got fires looking for places to happen.

Not true for wildland/grass fueled fire.

I can remember fighting....well we called it that...actually we were doing everything we could to stay ahead of it.....

anyway, the brush fires across the NV/OR/WA/UT deserts have been clocked at 90 mph! That would be the head (front edge) of the fire.

If the fuel moisture is so low, that it ignites with little help, and the winds are blowing....no way to stop the forward progression...all you can do is try to direct it with dozers and back burns to take forward fuels away from the main fire.

Wish Louisiana could send them the rain that we are fixing to get! I do really feel sorry for those folks and all the wild animals and livestock!
