Look at it another way, many people are happy to punch a time clock on a factory floor doing the same repetitive job for 40 years... are they sheep? Different perspective, different needs.
And emulsfied gave you the legal answer to logging training and safety classes while on the yard... and Stevens was Audited and caught NOT enforcing that law after a roll over accident. That is why we are required to log the classes.
So not sheep or lambs, but human beings doing the best we can, with the skills and desires we individually have.

So.....say you fuel.....park the truck to go in and shower & eat. But first; before you hit the showers, you wanna scan your paper-work via TriPak.
The shower and supper can be logged "off-duty", because your company has relieved you of duty with that paper you signed in orientaion, and carry somewhere on your person or in your truck. BUT....do you have to show an additional 15 minutes (aside from the 15 you showed for fueling) for scanning the paper work.....after all, that IS company business?
And to answer THIS question:DenaliDad Thanks this. -

And Yes technically scanning your paperwork is on duty not working, so scan right after fueling, or stopping for the day, and it is part of the 15 or 30 minutes logged. It is all about time management.
So the only people who are not some lower form of life, have to be just like you? -
If I am an employee of a company who is in a non-policy-making role - and I am smart enough to know it - then I have a sheep mentality and I'm holding back the entire trucking industry.
If I hire onto a company knowing they have policies, regulations and procedures in place (some of which I may or may not think is stupid or counter-productive) and I choose to follow those policies, regulations and procedures for whatever time I am an employee of said company - then I have a sheep mentality and I'm holding back the entire trucking industry.
If I work for a company and follow the direction of the company (as I agreed to do as a condition of employment) this affects you and means that I have a sheep mentality and am holding back the entire trucking industry.
This is what you meant?
Oh, and just for the record: My comment about nobody caring what you or I think was made within the framework of Stevens or any company that you or I do not own or manage. Sad as it is, it's true - Stevens doesn't come and ask our opinion when they are about to institute a new policy or enforce an existing one.
They do, however, expect their employees to follow those policies - regardless of whether those employees have a sheep mentality and are holding back the entire trucking industry. -
And Dave.....you just sound confused or parinoid......which is it?
The answer would be both yes, and no. Does that help? LOL -
Company policies to follow FMCSR are a bad thing...
I don't have ANY issues being legal, company policy or not... -
Stevens paying 0.30 at one year. 2,500 miles per week= 750.00.
Another company pays 0.34/mile but driver only averages 1800= 612.00
Company brags they pay 0.34. sounds good, but do they get the miles?
Its not about the miles its what the company values you for running those miles. Now if you value yourself 15 to 20 percent less than the guy running next to you then all fine and dandy. -

I would love to see where in the fmcsr that the law states that when your at your company's yard you have to be logged on your books....log books are for trips, what if your not even assigned a truck, you have to log your trips walking from the drivers lounge to the mechanics shop? also, last time i checked, anything i'm not paid for doesn't qualify as company business. if your under dispatch, i can see logging senseless sh1t, but if your not under dispatch YOU are OFF DUTY or in your SLEEPER. and p.s. safetey classes are only mandatory with some companies, like stevens, swift, roehl etc....mostly training company's...you guys log a lot of senseless garbage, fmcsr for your source plz, but i have a feeling that you just believe what that crack head joke of a company tells you.
