Yea, I hear ya. Just wasn't really thinking about it at the time.

Anyway the radio and all is working great. I also figured what the antenna issue was and got that fixed up also.

I am getting great reports running the Coba 29 and the palomar 450 so I will stick with that and leave the connex as a backup incase I have other radio issues in the future.

It is kind of fun to get a call on a phone from a freind over 20 miles away and him telling you that you are coming in loud and clear.

LOL the cat was swinging yesterday, was on top of a hill in the road just outside of a small town in North eastern ND. Well actually I was on top of the west shore of glacial lake Aggazie. I had forgot my palomar on and was talking to one of the drivers about something going on at the unload site about 30ish miles away. Got to the site and one of the guys asked what kind of radio I had because it sounded like I was right behind him. LOL. He wants my setup. The foreman of the site stopped to chat quickly about my radio setup and if he could get a similar setup in the company pickup. He said it would be a thousand times easier to have a radio setup similar rather then trying to call all the drivers on the cell phone if there are issues at the site. Rather have them stop along the way then piling up at the site. They could stop and get lunch or whatever.

One thing about having the ability to talk distance is that it is good and bad. The good is that everyone can hear you within a long distance, the bad is that EVERYONE can hear you within a long distance. So you really have to watch what you are saying. Don't go talking about log books or weights etc because EVERYONE can hear you.

I remember one night last year. I was struggling to get up the Medina Hill on I 29 in central ND. Was ######## to one of our drivers about my truck being castrated. LOL my phone range. A friend was on the other end of the phone and said that my radio should beable to push me up the hill. LOL he was about 25 miles away. That and he asked who I was talking too. He thought I was a little closer and just ranting over the radio by myself. I told him I don't have a habit of talking to myself over the radio ALL the time. LOL

Where can I get copper ground straps at locally? Hardware stores? I need to get my antenna grounded out, I have a wilson 2k on my pete and since my cab is all fiberglass I think I should ground that antenna.

Try the salvage yard. They use them under the hood on diesel pickups. Old cop cars also have them between the truck lid and the body. I couldn't find any place locally to buy new ones. Probably find them on line somewhere.

We have a parts store that has it in bulk. I would check with some automotive parts places.

Glad you got the mic fixed and the radio works well.

Always avoid any "advice" from channel jumper :tool:, he likes to "hear" himself type.

When you see a long reply from him it is really just a rant on how stupid he is and thinks! Just skip his reply and move on, you will not benefit by anything he typed.

We all figured that out about Channel Jumper. His post kinda pissed me off since he basically called me a moron and that the issues I was having was do to me having No knowledge on how to install a radio in the truck.

I had two seperate issues with two different radios. One issue was a Mic and the other was failure of my antenna system due to crappy manufacturing. It had nothing to do with the install.

It is not really rocket science and alot of us don't have availability to analyzers etc to check our antenna setup out. All we have are SWR meters and testing via use of the radio on the air to see how it is working and sounding.

I mean, you install the radio, coax and antenna, get your swr meter out and check the SWR. Adjust as needed to get your SWR down to 1.5 or less, add grounding for the system if needed. High SWR sometimes indicates lack of RF ground. When the SWR is down to were you want it and you will not hurt your radio when you use it then you find a channel with some traffic on it and politly ask for a radio check with mile markers for a range check. If you get someone from more then 10 miles out coming back at you then you have done just fine. Which my setup was easily doing. Heck I have reached out to 30 miles with my setup. I did not know it was getting out that far until some guy with a little extra "juice" reported back to me with "flowers".

The Mic thing did have me puzzled since I did not know that it could be an issue with the cobra/uniden radios. I just had to open my mind a bit to get it through my skull. But that is an Isclandic heritage issue. LOL But the biggest problem witht he mic repair was the fine hair sized wires being used and my fat shaky fingers.

But it looks as if CJ has moved on, it has been pointed out by others that he really doesn't know much of anything anyway and his only true reason for being here, which is to cause issues on this forum. I wonder if he ever did PM the admin and mods here about reporting this forum to the FCC.
