What can a driver do if the company that he works for refuses to verify employment experience with other the trucking companies that are being applied to?
The whole point of putting up with some of these bad-reputation companies that will hire anyone without experience is to get experience and move on to a better paying trucking job, but what can a driver do if his current or previous trucking company refuses to verify that the driver drover for them, or how long, or offers an estimate of how many miles were ran?
This has to be another low for trucking companies. Will simply getting a DAC solve this problem? What if our pay-stubs are all online? Do we just copy down the web-pages, showing how much we got paid? Scan all bills of lading and put them on a web-page online and refer employers and insurance co's to that? Are lawyers needed, or are companies legally required to verify driving experience?

W-2s, settlements. These will show that you were employed by any company. Record keeping IS your responsibility. Personally, I have a back up of my back up. The company sends a paper settlement, they send me a pdf attached to an email, and I keep a copy of each pdf on the computer.

Amen to that. Alway keep copies of everything and document anything said or that happened. In court that will save you lots of grief. -
Remember to cover your own 6. W2/ 1099/ some times a dac but a copy of your psp report as for mileage estimate i cant tell you how many miles i have drovr in 29 yrs but a good number to run by is 90,000 to 120 thousand per year if you was a good runner

I would use weekly settlements, pay stubs, W-2s, tax returns and log books. I have all my records going back the past 30 years. Do not ever throw this stuff away.
From my way of thinking, W-2s and log books should satisfy anyone. W-2s should verify employment, approximate time employed and company information. Log books should verify length of employment, approximate miles driven, load information and company name.
If the companies in question use DAC and there is nothing questionable on your report, that could provide basic information but not nearly the detail that W-2s and logs would.
Yes regulations dictate that a company verify your employment, document that and create and maintain a file that shows this for future inspection by DOT. Even an owner operator, with authority, must create and document this information for himself as a driver. -

As many have said, always document everything. I have won twice in small claims court because of documentation. Both times I was written a check before leaving the court house. These people who prey upon folks depend on the fact that nobody documents anything. The look on their face when you produce documentation is priceless.
It has been a lot of effort to assemble and maintain records for the past 30 years but the 4 - 6 times I have used them they have paid big dividends. If you do this you probably won't need them very often. If you don't you will probably need them too often. I know which one I prefer. -
Consider all information on any computer as TEMPORARY!!!!
Information or the hardware itself is all too easily lost! Print copies and store them. Two different places if it is vital information.

No they don't have to contact your previous employers. But you are to certify the application as true and correct by signing it. At minimum they have to accept it.
Like others said, paystubs and logbooks prove any employment. Not like everyone saves logbooks, but you should be saving all paystubs.
Your experience has to be current to start at a higher wage. It is best to negotiate your pay before you hire in. Not after. I got an extra penny my last job because I did negotiate. Pay is always flexible.
