I just purchased an 02 780. 500ISX 18 sp Eaton Autoshift. Im looking for suggestions on where I can trim some pounds. I'm considering removing both mufflers and brackets and adding a weedburner exhaust. It has 11R 22.5 duals with aluminum rims. Is there any weight saving going to wide base singles? Any other ideas?

If it has 4 batteries you may be able to get away with 3, also you could buy an aluminum 5th wheel plate, if it has a sliding 5th go to a stationary mount, but truth be told I don't think that you are going to save a ton of weight unless you do something drastic like take off the roof section and make it a midroof. -
How much weight are you trying to trim? With the ISX, 18spd and the Volvo cab you are heavy to start with.
Depending on how/where you run, can you go to one fuel tank? -
Why in the world would you buy a Volvo if you are that concerned about weight? I hope you got a hell of a good deal on it!

I'm OK at my current weight with most loads but I'm just looking for helpful suggestions to shed weight where practical. I priced a Holland aluminum plate and at $3000 to save 150 lbs it's one impractical solution. I can run with one tank.
Big Don Thanks this. -
How much does your truck weigh? I have a 07 780, volvo d12 465 motor, with 10 speed auto shift and It weighs under 30,000 lbs with full tanks and trailor. Lightest truck I ever had.

19100 lb no fuel. I need to add a headache rack and supplies (chains etc).

Though my is a little loaded with the 14 liter engine, 18 speed tranny, dinette, sink, toliet, 40 gallon fresh water tank, Condo, Headache rack, dual exhaust, dual 150 fuel tanks, Motorcycle lift and Bmw bike (650lbs.) And 3cly diesel APU.
Wish I could lose couple pounds also but wouldn't want to give up much. I have put shut off valves on the fuel tanks and mostly only use the one tank. Also I moved my batteries back in front of the fifth wheel between the frame rails to take weight off the steers.
