Work History

    I have a question about my work history as it pertains to a driving career. From 2005-2009 I was a full-time student. During this time, I work a temp student job on campus from June 2008 - September 2008 and again from June 2009 - December 2009, when I graduated.

    After that, I worked in a job from March 2010 to April 2010 for roughly 3 weeks. I resigned when I realized the position was not anywhere near what was described to me in the interview.

    From there, I worked in a commission only sales job from June 2010 to January 2011. I resigned from this position since I wasn't making any money and was spending a large amount on travel expenses.

    After that I worked another job starting in May 2011. I was there for a few weeks until I was terminated for being out sick during the probationary period.

    I would like to get my CDL and am wondering how potential employers will view this work history. I have a clean background and a clean MVR. Thanks for your help!

    Ummm...I do believe you just laid out your prior work history right there...excluding the names of the employers, which we don't need anyway.

    Just be completely honest about your periods of unemployment and employment...

    I agree with otherhalftw.

    just put all that in a graph/table type form, with names of employers, your supervisor/boss name, contact phone and address. For the blank unemployed time put why, such as "seeking employment as XXX whatever you went to school for; or did you move; did you take any extra classes; you now, just be honest.
    Then at top of the page put your full name, contact phone, address. At the bottom of the page (or bottom of last page) either put: "references available upon request"; or include 3 quality references who are not family members (former co-workers or supervisors are good; or since you had sales job, if made some contacts thru clients are also good) and poof, you have a resume' ready to hand to potential companies you are interested in.

    Just make sure you have all names,numbers, and addresses so that it can all be verified. Also if you were 1099'd then you will have to show those. Any gaps in employment you will need a letter from someone stating what you were doing during that time and get it notarized.

    I know from what I've read on here that Central Refrigerated won't hire someone who was terminated from their last job. Are most companies that way?

    While I was a 1099er at the commission only job, I never received any income there since I didn't sell anything. In turn, I wasn't issued a 1099. Are potential employers going to make an issue out of that? I have phone numbers, addresses name, etc. for all my employers.

    One problem you might have is, alot of companies dont like to see alot of moving around, Non-truckiing doesnt report to dac, If possible I'd consolidate my resume, before sending to a trucking company,with this economy, if they ask why the gap in employment, this economy, lack of work, JMHO
