Go to the Discuss your favorite company section and look for the "new thread" icon on the top left I think. Click that, come up with a title and away you go. Give it a shot. I look forward to following your adventures.

Oh boy... Here we go again. Another troll...
-
i'm not saying its a bad thing. But when you run more than 30 students a week thru a school, it kinda turns into a mill. they have a set process for processing people into cdl drivers.
nothing wrong with it. -
They lose about a third because of health reasons and drug tests. then theres the ones that just cant frickin drive. its the nature of the business.
-
We have to start somewhere and need to pay our dues. How many start the class and how many are left standing at the end of three weeks on average?
-
So a 30% wash-out then.
-
If I remember right we started with about 35. We lost maybe 8 or 10 for various reasons during the 3 weeks. We also gained 5 or 6 from previous classes that were released from med holds.
Lost quite a few during training phase. At the start of grad fleet there are about 8 of us left. -
well the initial drop off would be diminished if one had to take a physical, urine sample and driving record check before class starts...that would leave in the room only the ones that could actually get a cdl after a 3 week course...
In my class at least two guys could just not take the pressure of having to double clutch (??) so they just walked off the truck never to be seen again...some never pass the written tests, others actually were not looking when making the last left turn into the testing site and had accidents so out of 29, 8 of us made it to Dallas (we're talking Stevens here no?), a couple had issues and were held back and 6 of us were out with out initial trainers by Thursday afternoon.
I can't say that Stevens is all the evil some state here...to the contrary they're on the up and up...the motel was not that bad like many attempt to state here.
I have not complaints at all of the company. I developed a condition in my knees that forced me out of the truck 4 weeks into my initial 35 days and I had already driven over 4k miles, been all over Texas, driven to California twice, to Virginia and were on our way to Atlanta/Miami when I got off in Houston.
Tried to get back on but could never get the folks on the phone or the doctor to release the hold so I just went back to IT Consulting but have always feel sorry that did not see my dream of building a trucking company starting just as a Stevens co driver. But I keep in contact with my former trainer and we laugh quite a bit recalling our road adventures...
So if you're a newcomer, don't believe the negative bs. It's going to be tough, rough and at times miserable. Not big paycheck initially but you'll have the tools in our hands to carve your future and that my dear americans is what the dream is all about.venne, SpyderRyder, Cubicfeet and 4 others Thank this. -
