Now as long as we leave LEGAL out of it there are many who do work DX on frequencies BELONGING to others ....... 27.555 used to be one of them.
IF your radio will go to 29.600 you wil find world wide HAMS using FM .....
Also on 28.400 it is a common one for to find SSB stations on ......
And on and on ...... -
you can listen to those frequencies all day and night long,,,, LEGALLY

You know CB has probably helped as much or more than Ham radio ever did. Back in the 70's a bunch of people had CBs in their vehicles. Nobody had cell phones. I remember hearing mobile units hollering for a base station to make a 911 call for them all the time. You also had your REACT clubs that would set up rest areas on holiday weekends with free coffee. When folks broke down on the highway they would radio others to get help for them as soon as they could get to a phone.
When you use the word "toy" in reference to CB radio, you are just showing your egotistical "I'm better than you cause I'm a Ham" attitude. Course that probably makes you feel warm and fuzzy all over!Last edited: Sep 7, 2011

REACTwas supported by ( and to help sell ) Hallicrafters CB radios in 1962. REACT did some good but has not exsisted here in Tampa for the last 20 years.
There is no doubt CB has and still is a big help today but to say that HAMS in the 110 year history are not a major help is not correct either.
Here in Tampa FL we have a very active group of guys envollved and nationaly on 14.300 mhz you can hear the nets . -
Guess ole mike doesn't own a scanner. If he did, he would know that when there is severe weather out there, the national weather service communicates with the weather nets on HAM radio. Guess he also doesn't know how ppl communicated during the aftermath of Katrina....
You try to help someone out on the CB, you will get told to "shuttup stupid".....
When your fire department blows the tornado siren, you can thank amateur radio operaters....Turbo-T Thanks this. -
I was talking about "back in the day". Sadly you are right about that in this day and time. I never disrespected what Hams do, just pointed out that while some of the idiots out there play with their CBs like a toy, it has been an invaluable tool in the past and still so, to lesser extent, today and doesn't deserve to be categorized as "toy". I know it bothers you guys when I point out your "holier than thou attitude"..........oh well!

Not in my area, The warnings sirens go off when noaa or the national weather service tells them to turn them on. We also have storm spotters but they are not radio operators. I should know because I am one of them. -
I would sure like to see him do it. Using a General Lee an 6 Band AM/FM only radio.
