Anyone out there work out of the chicagoland area with tankers? Just looking for some advice and approximate pay for newbie’s. I did notice some adds on their web site for hiring newbie regional tanker drivers.

Also, just one other thing. Went in for my DOT physical. Everything checked out. When doc checked me for hernia he had me lay down?!? Is this a new way for checking that I am unaware of....Or should I just feel dirty all over...lol

To be honest, if you are overweight the doctor will have you lay flat on your back so that your stomach flattens out a bit to make a more accurate assesment of a hernia. Otherwise it's the standard visual inspection along with "turn your head and cough!"

Well, other than Schneider there's A&R in Joliet as well as Altom which is in the Hammond, IN area. I don't know if Dana/Suttles is near there but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call as well.
*edit* Caladonia is another tanker outfit up in that area but I believe they are food grade only.

    nos2011 Thanks this.

If you are new to driving and want to pull tankers right out of the gate, Schneider Bulk is the only way to go. They will teach you the details required to deliver specialty chemicals....very dangerous stuff. There are no shortcuts in that business, it will kill you. I started with Schneider Bulk and worked for 2 other bulk companies in later years.
    Good Luck :)
