I worked for Gordon trucking Company for 11/2 yrs. Red Flags should have went off when I received my first Truck. I smelled Diesel fumes right away in a truck that was supposed to have been checked before it was sent out with a new driver. Not only did it take 3 days to fix it wasnt fixed properly.I then had a hard time waking the next day as the fumes were now in the sleeper.Another 3 days. I had decent miles with them ,at first. Then I found myself doing alot of local work and if I complained about low miles was penalized with even less miles.I have been told I couldnt resett my hours, been told it was very important that I take an over-weight load,(I refused) and was given low miles for my efforts. I was sent to pick-up reefers without proper training. It was a constant battle about one thing or another. They dont follow their own policies and would put loads on you without notifying you until the last hour, they'd also slip you loads that were impossible to make and if you had a problem they'd say "are YOU refusing to take this load" while implying it would go on your DAC.Countless talks with several Operations Managers brought no results and I finally had enough.I was one Driver. They tried to reason away my complaints..No raise ,after wage freeze was taken off(I did get 1yr.vacation pay) signed on at less then what I should have been making. They are definitly taking advantage of drivers because of the economy and people needing medical insurance for their families. They give you good miles at first but then keep you there by not giving you enough miles so you can never make a better move for your family. They care not for their drivers but very good care of their TRAILERS.:biggrin_2557:

Who is going to make the rounds to the shops to get a truck fixed if the truck is not assigned? Thats why all that dust is on the hood of your new ride. They seat the truck and then you make the company money while you choke on the fumes trying to get it fixed..

The rest is the MO at most OTR carriers if you try and put safety above profit.

Any new driver should now know that you take the loads that you are dp on and if they are overwht then you have them reworked. If you don't have hours for the run then you run your hours and put in a eta/pta.

I have been charged with 1 service faliure and have pulled loads in the thousands. I did not like the dwell times at the shipper and receiver for the lenght of haul so I was late so I would not be given that run agian and it worked.:biggrin_255:

My fault, and indeed you are correct sir.

I'm still narrowing down my list of :Van:companies too look at when I get my CDL in the spring. I have some contract obligations thru April, then I plan to attend Sage(Muncie Indiana) and move forward with my life long dream/desire to become a OTR truck driver.

    Tops thus far...
    1.Hall Brothers
    2.Watkins-Shepard
    3.Gordon
If I decide to go flatbed
    1.Boyd
    2.Maverick

My research will continue as I approach April.

Thank you for any advise moving forward.

bigblue19, I did attempt to work with shipper to get load reworked but shipper said that their scale was right (not certified) and that the certified scale down the road was wrong. When I contacted dispatch(7 dispatches later) to tell them what shipper said they took 17hrs to tell me that it was important that "I "take the load . When I asked if Gordon would pay the ticket/fine for being over-weight they sent out a shell of a truck(no APU etc..) that could scale out. After that I was given 7 small runs.(-144). Thanks Also I went to OTR before I sat truck and they told me truck had just been serviced. Every terminal I went to took at least 3-4 days to fix a truck and that didnt mean it was fixed and whether under warranty or not they always want you at their terminals.I had lots of problems with truck and when I finally got a new one had problems with that one too. Thanks for the input but go to any Gordon terminal and you will find VERY unhappy drivers/employees that are just bidding their time. I had heard that this was a good company but talk to any Gordon driver now especially Owner-Ops and you will find :biggrin_25510:

Op's has control over what loads you will get. Piss them off by forcing them to do there jobs and it can and will make your wallet mty.

There are no good OTR company's. Only degrees of bad. They all screw you sooner or later and expect you to be at there beck and call 24/7 while they only pay you while you are running a load.

The only difference between a driver who likes their OTR company and one that does not, Is that the guy who likes it, does not mind being bent over. As long as he gets a little walking around money for putting in 40hrs more a week then the rest of Americia. They are ready to break out the pom pom's.:biggrin_25525:

Who are you running for these days, bigblue?

I've been around long enough to tell when I'm getting the shaft. I don't consider $1,100/week for 2,600 miles the shaft. Uh...that's after putting 10cpm away in a maintenance account. So, without putting that away, I could be pocketing almost $1,400 each week.

Yeah. I'm being treated soooo poorly. Think I'll go cry a river now.

Kevin Cole and THBatMan8 Thank this.
