I get here when I can. The truck was idling very badly, the flash was just the new program available from Detroit or FL. APU wasn't working for heat so I was idling.
These trucks are owned by a lease company, and they own the dealership as well.
I have had other issues, and I'm not real happy if the load is heavy, but that did help the power some.
It's irritating, though, when you climb into a tractor witha Mercedes, and it pulls better than a 14L Detroit.

I am driving a penske rental right now and I have tried to get the best mpg out of a 2010 Cascadia with a DD15 in it. I can at my very best get 6.88 mpg and that is at 63 mph with 75,000 gross.

Anyone know what is the best way to obtain a list of owner operators in MIami, FL that drive Detroit Diesels?
-
IIRC, the 12.7 never had the EGR. 03 was the model year when they introduced the Mercedes-Benz 12.8 to replace the DD60 12.7 in production.
-
I know this is old but to correct the last comment in 03 the 12.7 had an egr system in it. when that motor failed because it lacked the power with the egr kit on it they came out with the dd13 and dd15 motors that meet the new emmision laws so yes in 03 you could buy a trucks with 12.7 on could be a standard date stamped 2002 emmisions and one 2003 emmisions.

I have a 14l series 60 (2003 model year), and when I first bought the truck, I was getting 5-5.7 mpg depending on load and speed factors... I disabled the EGR by cutting off the barometric sensor and intalling a simple feedback loop with 10k ohm resistors... I now enjoy 7.5 loaded HEAVY and 8.3 to 8.8 light or empty... I fill up twice a week on 3000 miles now as opposed to 3 times a week before I made the modification. The modification essentially disables the EGR valve... GONE are rough idling, lackluster climbing, coughing and sputtering, belching black smoke, etc... my oil sample results are awesome...
Just my experience... others may disagree with the method.

Well I happen to drive a 2004 columbia with a 12.7 with the egr valve. I found it online told the boss it would be a good one to buy, they brought it to the shop and I seen the egr on and said OH CRAP!

I have always been advised by my mechanic to go with the 12.7 when it comes to DD. I've been trying to find a low mileage 12.7 here recently...
-
I have an 05 Columbia with the 12.7 Detroit. -
But was it originally a glider kit? I'm pretty sure the 12.8 MBE 4000 was introduced in 2003. They were trying to convince me to fleece purchase a Columbia with one just before Uncle Sam told me I had to go play Army again.
