He was on a flight to his new carrier and Saturday on a load.

I've been hired the same day one an online application before.

Had gov't contract stuff that took 30 days and multiple interviews to get hired.

    Both driving jobs.

All depends on the company and circumstances

Brownsfan I highly recommend you don't wait more than a couple weeks after school or they will make you take a refresher course. I wouldn't chase the local gig. Chances are very slim! Most newbies seem to think they don't have to put their time in and will land a local gig out of school. Happens on occasion but highly unlikely. Put yourself in the employers shoes. Would you hire someone with a proven track record, a few years of experience, can handle equipment without tearing it up or damaging it. Or would you hire someone who has never been in a truck outside of school, no record, no clue of what they are doing?

Summary - Don't hold your breath for the local job! Get out there, get hired SOON, get a year or so of experience and then try to go local. I would hate to see you have to pay another $2500 for a refresher for something that it seems you don't even really want to do.

I was on my way to one of the mega haulers when a local gig fell on my lap. I'm one of the lucky ones I guess.

I've usually been hired before the phone call is over (if applying by phone) or on the same day as I dropped off the application (if applying locally).

Getting hired has never been a problem for me....but then again, I've got an excellent work history and I'm good at what I do.:biggrin_25525:

Let's see....six million people become drivers and look for local job.
Now a local job opens and these six million apply, with varying amounts of experience.
But you think you stand a chance as a newbie just out of school?
    OK....just checking.
    How's Disneyland these days?

Are you referring to me? Because I am NewNashGuy and the other replier is Nashville Driver :) Yeah I used to live in Antioch and the cops didn't care at all. Once I totally ran a stop sign on a backroad that is always empty and to my surprise a cop was right there looking at me and didn't even do anything lol. I live in La Vergne now and the cops here give tickets to pay their bills. Yeah and metro police of metro are more concerned with busting criminals than harassing citizens so they are lax too. Good to see a fellow TNer :)
