    husband just had similar problem fixed today. It was a switch that wouldn't work right. A/C worked going down the road, but not when idling.

    If the thermatic switch is not working, then the evaporator core will freeze up and not work. Power goes from the AC on switch, to the thermatic switch, to the low pressure switch to the AC clutch.
    The high pressure switch, controls the engine fan on, the truck ECM designates the time the fan stays on in every cycle so it does not wear out the fan clutch.
