Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
this is gonna be such a mess. i can't believe they are getting away with it.

The drivers are the ones who welcomed the feds in... They could have done something before (like following the HOS) but they decided to become a group of victims and begged the feds to come save them... they did! LOL!!!!!

We still get 70 hours in 8 days. It won't affect me.
-
Now can we please address this silly 14 hour rule?
rx -
So you are saying that you don't use the 34 restart? A lot of the rest of us do! and will be affected if/when it goes away. -
How can the guy writing this article state what is happening? The only thing that is set in stone is the court ruled the the HOS rules of 11 hours and the 34 hour restart must be changed.
Nobody knows that the 34 hour restart will completely go away, nobody knows for sure that the 11 hour rule will drop back down to 10 (although the latter is very likely).
OOIDA is making a case for drivers being allowed to keep the restart. If they can convince the government to keep it, I imagine it would remain, but change to something like a 48 hour restart.
I could care less about the 11 hour rule changing. I got along fine with it being 10 for a long time, and I rarely drive 10 hours in a day.
In my current job, the 34 hour restart is a great thing for me, as when I get by the house ( which is a couple times a week) I can show enough time to restart. I never even add up my hours anymore because I know I have the restarts in there. I really hope this stays in some form or fashion.
Bottom line, I am not worrying too much about this. I made my feelings known about it to the proper people, I pay my money to OOIDA to help be my voice in matters like this, and now it is just a matter of waiting to see what happens. It is possible that "nothing" could happen, and the rules could stay the way they are. -
Sorry Fozzy......
Drivers NEVER "begged" the FEDS or anyone else to "save them". This was done by two (or three) groups; the ATA and OOIDA filing suit against the Dept of Transportation because they felt the new rules didn't address driver fatigue, which they don't. The Court agreed. And so do I.
Other than the fact that "we" gained a 34-HOUR Reset, the 2005 rules were impractical to follow.
The old rules were just fine, if the Government forces the Shippers/Receivers to load/unload their crap in a timely manner.
Drive 10, take 8 off, then drive another 8.
That averages to 14 hours driving per day over a period of time.
Throw in a 34-Hour Reset....we got it made. -
I only restart at home. I stay out 2-3 weeks and my log book always has hours for me. Sometimes gotta dig around to find them though.
