What's scary is there is alot more like him out there. They clean up long enough for a drug test and they are right back at it.

When you have a job where you run 3rd shift alot, you see alot of crack or meth heads in the truck stops. Their pupils look like an owl. I stood in a long line behind a driver one night. He couldn't stand still and dug in his pocket a good 5 minutes looking for a quarter or something that wasn't there. I couldn't help but laugh at the idiot.

Back when I started the DOT did randoms right in the scalehouses. I remember one even in a pickle park. They don't do that anymore I guess because of costs. They need to have a crackdown every now and then to catch these guys. Anyone can beat a planned drug test except for the real dumb ones. :) It's the randoms that catch them off guard.

Gasienica, it doesn't matter that guy is an OO. He doesn't need to be on the road until he grows up and cleans his act up. He ain't nothing but a loose cannon right now. He'll have a hard time getting insurance. Nobody wants a high risk that might cost them a million dollar lawsuit. The headlight thing, every handbook I read says they must be on 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset. That is a dumb rule, but it's what they made. All you need is the sunset time that day and they have no choice but to throw that one out. Ohio is slow about reporting things. A long time ago they use to not report tickets to your home state unless you got 3 of them. I'm sure that has changed now.

db, that one from north Jersey, they all talk like that it seems. He definately has a bad attitude. Sounds like he's near rock bottom. It'll be a good learning experience for him.

I think he's straightened up, he's had letters sent to his house last 5 months randomly and had to go back to Ohio to take a random drug test. That was a part of the drug abuse charge that was dropped from a commercial ovi and regular ovi charge..

Also think that a 6 month break from what he was used to making to what kind of money he's making now and the work he has to do is gonna keep him straight. I don't think he'll go back to his old ways, just of the fact he's busting his ### twice as much to get half of what he used to make..

Think his eyes are wide open at what consequences you get for certain actions you take.

For all those drivers that think their invincible, one day when I catches up to you and hits you then you'll think long and hard if it was really worth it while your serving you consequences for the actions you took.

I think what he meant to say was:
Just figured I would toss that out there so's nobody thought they were being threatened.

    Gasienica Thanks this.

I think the laws consequences would be worse then a beating, but sometimes I think that sometimes they don't understand the one with out the other one happening to them. That's where I took it upon myself to beat it in him since he has a hard time reading and understanding some things. Were still real good friends and he thanked me for waiting and helping out after I feed him a few lefts and rights.

I'm no one to enforce the law on someone, theirs a lot of people out their that get paid to do that. I may just assist when I see help is needed.

We've lost quite a few drivers over the last year due to violations. Where I drive for items like following to close, speeding 10 over, and some other violations gets you an instant ticket out the door.

Is this a policy based off of CSA or was it in place before this came about? Unsafe acts have been grounds for termination for some time now.

Mostly CSA. Unfortunately they don't have the greatest record. But some of us are trying to make it better. Just got a level 2 done the other day no violations which feels great since I've only been at this for 4-5 months now.

With CSA there comes new ways for the FMCSA to punish motor carriers, most of which are directly tied to driver behavior. Motor carriers can now see how close they are from a compliance review when in the past it was sort of a mystery.

Go to http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/sms/ and enter a USDOT or MC number. Click on Unsafe Driving and you see a dial with a percentage. If it goes above 60% the first intervention happens, which is a letter saying "Clean up your act, we're watching you and if it doesn't start to go down we will pay you a visit". You can see all of the violations along with dates and license plate numbers.

Motor carriers are only trying to prevent that dial from getting to 60% by imposing penalties on drivers for having too many points.
