I spoke with a recruiter, and looking like I might come on up to springfield for an orientation soon. I drove for swift for a short time, but couldn't take it very long. I tried a small stint hauling oil in the oil fields, but it just wasn't for me.
I've been given mixed opinions on prime and I wondering if yall have any warnings, tips, or suggestions on what to watch out for, be ready for or anything like that?

Be completely honest with them about everything. It's a good company.

I only know Prime. My question is what about swift did you not like?
I find Prime to be great to work for. -
it was a mixture of things, and I'd rather not get into it all. But basicly you found yourself sitting alot waiting to be dispatched, or for them to send a load you can actually make. (they love to send you 600 mile loads due in 5 hours). Then one day I showed up for hometime and they said cleanout your truck, you run low miles so your going to start slip seating everytime you go out. That was the final straw. I stayed out normally for a month at a time home for 2-3 days. I did not want to play musical trucks everytime I went home. This is ontop of alot of other bs.
I did like otr. The low stress life, and just the lifestyle itself I really loved. So I figure I'll run out there with a company that I've heard much better things about. -
I have a list of questions here if anyone could take the time to answer, I would appreciate it.
Does prime use elogs
Are you forced to switch trucks often?
hows the maintence, is it only done at prime terminals
how many terminals does prime have
do company trucks have apu?
How bad are they about idle times?
does prime run into canada?
hazmat loads? -
I am glad you like the lifestyle. That slip seat stuff was what kept me away from swift.
So far I have not had short times on loads but I have had to wait on shippers but usually I get dispatched realativly quickly once empty.
Here are the answers to your questions best I can give.

thanks man, I appreciate your time. Apu's never had one, Do those help in running the ac or anything like that. This is where I find a problem with idle times. I'm not very good in hot weather and need a cool truck. Elogs I'm ok with, never had them, but atleast it will stop the DM's from trying to get you to run past hours. I do have a cpap, and a passport, twic, and hazmat, so I'm hoping to use those things and see some new places.
Just waiting on my last job to fax in my employment verification and I should be heading up there for orientation and into a truck shortly after if all goes well. -
yep the apu is there so you freeze in the summer and sweat in the winter. Well I have only beeen on 2 trucks and only in the summer but I brought a sheet bag as I was affraid I would be hot. I am glad I brought the sleeping bag too as it is COLD in here even at 100+ outside and in the top bunk. And it burns very little fuel.
On another point I spoke with my trainer and he had a fuel checkvalve and a starter go out both times went to freightliner for repair as it was closer. He is lease not sure if company side is diff -
APUs are awesome!! They really help you get some restful sleep. Without it your usually going to either freeze or bake to death.

Not a problem here.. No A/C in summer 60 At winter.. used to it..
Don't reefers have to idle?
