Doesn't it say on the top of the thank something about 85% too? That will only give you 255 to start with, and the tanks DON't suck to the bottom, they leave 20-30 gallons at the bottom for the crud, water and sludge to stay at. The ECM fuel readings are often off by at least a few % too.

I had 150 tanks on my FLD and it says on them that only 90% is useable. My truck only quit on me one time and it took 265gal. You have to remember also that the tanks are so long that the fuel slosh is very high. Even with 20gal in each tank, pulling a slight grade will cause the pick up tubes to suck air and cause the engine to lose it's prime.
My suggestion is to NEVER let the tanks go past 200 gal because after that point you are drawing in the sludge and dirty fuel/water into your engine and injectors. -

The pickup tubes are setup like an upside down T and on the ends they curve back up about 2.5". Thus if u have 10gal of fuel in the tank, and the tank is 5 feet long, you will be right at the point of the tips of the tubes. About 3"

I have 240 capacity, and I've put 225 in at a fill up. I think all trucks are slightly different.
As far as this problem, I would go with not drawing equally out of both tanks. Although every time I see that happen, it's a Peterbilt. Strange, not sure why. -

One of my W9's has small tanks (70 per side) and it's a royal PITA becuase it draws unevenly and I can only use about 50 from the left tank before I have to fill up (died going down a decent grade weighing 102k total a month after I got it) and that is more like 30 from the right tank. I can use barely over half the tank capacity before it has to be filled up again and with a lot of heavy loads, short trips, and idling waiting to get into leases (avg 3.8mpg with this one) it's constantly getting fueled.

I know of a friend who had the same issue with his W9. He changed out his p/u lines because over the years one side had corroded and the line had basically collapsed in on itself. He now has no problems and both sides pull evenly. His truck is a 2002 with a C16slodsm Thanks this.

I'll look into that SHC. Thanks for the tip. I've been running 24 days now without a stoppage (happily I might add when you consider the alternative) and haven't even had a chance to look into it anymore.
