Have you heard about this? Has to do with unfair labor practices

EDIT: I removed link because it has a virus. We've had reports and even I checked it. Sure enough, it's dirtier than a truck stop lot lizard! :)

That could have long ranging ramifications.

Should be noted that these labor practices are not exclusive to May Trucking, it's systemic throughout the industry.

Kind of funny, a May Trucking DM told me (regarding the $50 per day for trainee) "well, you gotta pay your dues, right?" To which I responded, "did you work for less than minimum wage when you did your DM training?"

    There was no response... ;-)

This is about the third one I seen in a year. Maybe if more drivers would stand up and file a lawsuit things might change. This is just a small jab though. What we need is about 100 lawsuits. :)

If the plaintiff were to win this one, it will set a precident enabling all companies to be sued.
Depending how this progresses thru the courts, look for changes to start happening through out the industry.
For one, O/O and L/Os will be exempt as they are 'independent' contractors.
Company drivers may be forced to take lunch breaks, stop and log the two mandatory 15 minute breaks required by labor laws.
per mile pay would go down to cover the other minimum costs the employer would have to pay.
And there would be a concerted effort by companies to shift employees to 'independent contractor' status.
It's possible we may see company driver positions become as rare as union positions.
