There are probably as many different opinions on this, as there are drivers. What you need to look at is the overall condition of both the engine and the truck that it is in. The more you can find out about a particular unit, the better decision you will be able to make.
GSWx and The Challenger Thank this. -
The most fuel efficient is the S60, There is a number on the emission tag that tells you how many MM3 of fuel it takes to make the HP. if the engines are close in HP the numbers mean a lot. An N14 bought as a 460 has better Jake's than the others. Is decent on fuel mileage if you are hauling heavy loads. Above 500 HP they have problems.
Cats I really like a lot, but I get paid to fix them, look at the emissions tag, they are expensive to fix, poor on fuel, and have more problems than any other engine.
Just a thought!The Challenger Thanks this. -
I would take one with CAT. Good Luck with your purchase.

The best engine is one that u can repair yourself. For me out of those 3 is the n14, I can work on them.

With three different engines you will get several different opinions.

They are engines not motors. Motors are electric.

KT600 Cummins with twin turbos built by Tom Lindsey

The easiest to repair and work on is the N14 Cummins followed by the Detroit 12.7. A mechanic at a local shop once told me he prefers Cummins over a Cat because the cheap parts and that they usually are the easiest to fix.
