Call any Peterbilt dealer with the vin number and they should be able to tell you everything about the truck.

Im sure its a 359 as long as its a conventional and has regular front fenders not square steel ones. 379 came out in 87 by the way.
jr-transport Thanks this. -
I think I have it figured out... I have a 1977 359 .... C346 is stamped into the valve cover so I am thinking it's a 3406C ? Great truck I love it though I don't know much about it. Bobtailed for 5 or 6 hours recently and seems to run great...for what that's worth. Now I will start going through the truck and seeing what I find. Good thing I am not afraid of doing what ever work it needs myself with the help of a good book from ebay like you folks suggested.

hey question..i have beeen working on a 1989 Peterbilt 379,the brake switch down under the petal beside the firewall, does anyone have the wiring diagrams for it or schematics, cause there was someone that bypassed the switch and put the brake lights ona toggle switch ?i recently changed the switch and they have the wiring all messed up on it,can someone help ?

Super Miller has the wiring diagrams:
Supermiller – Class 8 Trucks
SK19517 and SK18250 are what you want. Can't remember what those are listed under, there are several for the 379
For the brake switch you need power to the switch from the circuit breaker on wire #3
Wires 279 and 281 connect to the other side of the switch and take it from there. 279 goes to the trailer, 281 is for the truck but the wiring diagram doesn't show it past the pass through connector on the firewall.
