Every Volve I've ever passed looked liked the hood was trying to make an escape. It's always bouncing up and down and the side panels are always flexing. Most Volvos eventually lose the side panels.
Not a very good fit and finish. -
I used to owned a 98 volvo with 385hp D12B. I got it for $16000 in 2004 and had around 580k miles on it. And I sold it for $3500 (for scrap) in end of 2009 with 820k miles.
There were some electrical issuses like the stuck exhursh pressure govornor control. It had also logged bunch of check engine faults in the computer but the check engine didn't come on and no derate so I didn't bother to figure out what was wrong. Turbo was replaced once.
The water pump was leaking oil from the worn seal at the gear side. A thermostate struck and I got no heat.
The bearing at a rocket arm was gone and got replaced. A belt tensioner also. It really need a new head gasket by the time I got rid of the it. It got crazy external oil from the head gasket area. The outside would be cover with oil within 3000 miles after I clean it. The only time it broke down was an heater hose broke and lost all of the coolant.
The fuel mileage was same comparing to my friends running the same routes with 01 and 02 detroit s60 430/470.
It is one of the early 98 red VNs from averitt express with super 10 and 385hp so it was super cheap. I sold it to a mechinic and he cut it up for parts. Most people have no clue how to fix D12 engines, at least used to be like this a couple years ago. It took 3 days to replace the water pump and I have all the parts ready. -
I have to add now I own a 05 with D12D 465hp 540k miles. I have it since 450k miles. And I don't have much issus with the engine so far. But the fuel mileage is not as good as my 98.
From what I heard from my friend who owns 5 05/06 trucks with D12D 465hp the EGR valves usually last until half a mil. So, you usually just need to replaced them once and that will be it.
The cab heater cores both front and sleeper have both been replaced more than one since new. -
You should do a little more research on where KW manufactures trucks. Yes they do have a plant in Mexico, they also have one in Australia, Canada and 2 in the US. so I would hardly call that a Mexican truck. Also most guys who buy Petes or KW's don't do it as a status symbol. Believe it or not some people want a truck that's easy to work on and is actually worth more than scrap when the sell it. The good looks are just icing on the cake. Some guys really like Volvo's, but then again there are people who actually eat White Castle by choice.groundpounder Thanks this.

my '07 780 with the '06 ISX has about 450K on it, on my 3rd EGR, 3rd heater core, haven't had dash lights for a long time, and after 3 hours the dealership couldn't find anything, and I didn't want to pay $100 an hour for them to keep fishing. Had a problem with moving the steering column would keep the windows from working!
But I love the ride, and the storage and living space inside, and the safety aspect of the cab. -
:-O how DARE you insult White Castle... trucks? blah blah blah, but WC is sacred to us Chicago Pollacks!
-
Just Pollacks? I'm an Irish and I love White Castle. Krystal has nothing on WC...
I have driven an 01 Volvo 770 with a 575 High Output Detroit in it and an 18 speed. I thought it was a great truck. I would think that truck has 900K+ miles on it now. The last time I drove it I want to say it was in the low 800K miles and it ran like a aped rape! I dont know of any electrical problems with that truck and that thing rode like a Cadillac and was a quiet as one to. The only thing I did not like about it was the sway that the truck had going around curves at highway speeds. To much body roll for me. The freightshakers I use to drive had like no body roll and the pete I drive now has none compaired to the Volvo. -
I own three Volvos 07 670 and two 07 780 with cummins isx engine so far for two years no major problems... the way i se it all new truck regardles of the brand they have tu much electronics and only dealer will repair them (newer year trucks)
i gues we are stuck with them -
Volvo sells many parts from Spicer, Sasch, meritor, Wabco, Knorr, Bendix, Siemens VDO, for twice bigger prices!!!
