I have recently gotten my CDL and was hired by a company part time as a contract driver. I am an independent contractor and must submit a bill to them for my hours and expenses. My biggest question is should I operate as a sole proprietorship or as an S corporation. I am concerned that if I have an at fault accident the liability issues will fall to me. The sole proprietorship is easier when it comes to doing taxes. The S Corporation gets complicated.

Look into an LLC they are easy to set up and can be taxed as a sole proprietorship. As always do your research and get sound advice.
