Purchased the same phone and had the same problems, signal down I95 went in and out constantly. Internet was like the old AOL network and was very bad, the phone is in the glove box of my pickup.

I've had StraightTalk for about a year now and couldn't be happier.
If you want a phone from them, it's cheaper to go to the StraightTalk.com website and buy one compared to Walmart.
You can get a Samsung355C reconditioned which is just like brand new for $20 off the website.
Be careful though because they base which service they give you by zip code. You can use my zip code 37332 and I can guarantee you'll get the Verizon network one. Then compare it with your zip code.
I called customer service when I made my purchase and made sure I got the Verizon phone. It's the CDMA code. GSM is ATT. If you buy one at Walmart, the code is on the front bottom left of the box. And the codes change from Walmart to Walmart.
aiwiron, if you want a better phone, they have them on the website, but they cost $150-200, but they do have them. You can't expect much from a $20 phone. I have the 355C but I have no need to browse, but I have. It will tell you insufficient memory, then you press okay, then it still lets you proceed. Like this website, I can see half the forums, lol. -
Thanks for the information and I did not know anything that you posted and learned something new today.
I was a ATT customer for 25 years, but during the last five years they started putting the screws to customers and was trying out the prepaid and ended up with Virgin Mobile, works very well here in Florida for some reason. -
i have used both the cdma and the gsm phones. the cdma phone WOULD NOT work on I81 from the PA line until you hit winchester va. i current have a Droid ZTE i bought last night. its gonna take the whole weekend to figure this thing out. so far, it looks pretty darn neat. 3g and WIFI..much better than the old slider phone i had. all for a tick over 50 a month with tax. cant beat that at all.

I know this thread was just resurrected from the dead, but ST now has 3 kinds of phones, GSM, CDMA, and CDMA-S. the only change as far as I know is that the CDMA-S phones run on Sprint's network, and the CDMA phones are still Verizon.
-
Thanks sazook! Yeah my sister went to the next town over and bought a new phone about three months ago, the CDMA-S. She was cussing because it didn't work. After calling I found out that was Sprint added to their selections. She took it back and I ordered her one offline.
Good to know them codes though!
Before I moved here I used Sprint and the reason I switched is it doesn't work here where I live. But out on the road it works good. Nothing beats the Verizon network though...CDMA. It works in them other's dead spots. -
The reason your phone wouldn't work is because StraighTalk uses the Verizon prepaid network. I use a different Verizon MNVO provider and I always have that section as a dead area. If you go to Verizon's website and look under the coverage button, the change it to "Prepaid", you will see what your coverage will be with the ST CDMA phones.

So glad this thread was resurrected! I've been thinking about kicking T-Mobile to the curb for awhile now. My daughter lives in Hawaii, and said that ST is the best service on the island where she lives (Kauai). She has AT&T and it's terrible. I figured that if it got good coverage there, it would probably be good for me. I drive 48 states.
The info about the different types of phones (CDMA, etc) was really great.. thanks to all. I used to have Verizon and loved the coverage, but their overbilling issues every month made me switch. I'm going to check Verizon's site for coverage, and compare it to what I've got now.
I'm thinking about keeping what I have for now, and getting one of tje cheap models from ST, basic service, and trying it out for a month. I guess if I don't like it, I won't be out much $$. -
I have been using straight talk on my various iPhones for over 2 years. The GSM network is AT&T, and I have the exact same coverages and speeds as any post paid AT&T customer. I currently have the iPhone 4s and use Siri quite a bit when I'm driving to text. I haven't had any problems, and my phone bill is always $50 and some change. I don't see myself ever going back to post paid again. Just not worth it.
OTR48States Thanks this.
