First of all I want to say hello to everyone!
Is there anyone on this forum that lives in SWFL and could give me some guidance on what carriers are good in this area? I have contacted multiple companies that will not even hire in this area. In the beginning I was just filling out applications at all the major carriers CR England, USA Truck, Schneider, Swift, Stevens, Central Refrigerated. Upon receiving my application a recruiter would then call me only to tell me they aren't hiring or they don't hire from Florida or if they do hire in Florida they don't hire out of my area. Luckily I found 2 carriers that do hire and I was pre hired with Werner and US Xpress. I am also waiting to see if I am approved at CRST so I don't have to look for funding since like most people looking for work, I don't have the $5000 to attend a school. I have signed up at the local Workforce Center to look into the WIA program in case I am not accepted at CRST and would have to pay for school for the other 2 carriers. I know some schools will finance and then most carriers offer tuition reimbursement but I don't want a $5,000 bill hanging over my head should something go wrong.
Anyone with any experience living in this area with any information would be greatly appreciated!

You should look into Miami, lots of schools there and not a bad price either.

pippina thanks for your reply. Now that I looked back I realize I posted this thread in the wrong forum. I already have decided on either CRST since they have sponsored CDL training or I will go to Roadmaster in Tampa since they seem to be very reputable plus I will be able to stay with my brother who lives in Bradenton instead of staying in a motel! Sorry for posting in the wrong forum! MY BAD.

I believe CRST and US Xpress only hire teams south of I-4. Just something to keep in mind. If teams aren't a problem for you, I believe Areminlli also hires teams south of I-4. Windy Hill hires solo drivers in Florida, but I'm not sure if they will hire as far south as Naples. As you found out, getting hired south of I-4 is a challenge. If you are considering Roadmaster in Tampa, check out Pinellas Technical Education Center (PTEC) in St. Pete. About half the price and much smaller class size.
Gemilz Thanks this. -

Thanks for you reply. I actually want to drive team. I want to drive otr to get out and see the country, I am not at all concerned about being home. From what I've seen so far in these posts is that team drivers seem to get the miles! Having zero experience and living where I live, I don't have much of a choice do I?
