I have a generalized questions on what would the qualifications be for a competent Trainer. No I am not considering it for myself, lol, but I am interested in the opinions of some of the very knowlegable posters on this forum. Thanks

Experience alone won't make a good trainer if the person doesn't have the ability to transfer that knowledge to other people with different learning curves or has the ability to realize what type of learner(i.e. kinesthetic, auditory or visual) that person is...

Hypothetically, Would one year OTR with the other teaching skills be adequate?

No one with less than 5 years should ever be allowed to train in my opinion.

No. Not because so and so would not be a good trainer/teacher but because there is alot of things to learn and even though one year might seem like a long time, as far as learning and getting experience it's just scratching the surface.

    Goodness no!

I am thinking that three years experience would be a minimum and preferrably five. I also believe there should be some additional training done to trainers AND all training trucks should be closely scrutinized by the safety dept so that the trainer doesn't use the training status as a way to generate lots of pay by running the truck as a team operation. You can't train a new driver from the bunk!

10,000 hours (which in the "regular" work-world is about five years)
