I have made the decision to switch careers and become a trucker. What am I thinking, right? For the last 3 days I have been reading forums on this site and other sites about different companies and driving school experiences. Some are good and some bad.
My 1st choice was CR England but after reading more I think they are a definite NO GO. I would like to go to CDL School at the ROADMASTER School in Fontana, California.
What truck company do you think would be best to go through to cover expenses. Also what company will give me the best chance to succeed and make halfway decent money right off the bat.
Thanks for any advice you can you got. This is a big decision so I really want to make the right choice and know that will only be possible if I listen to people who have been there done that. Thanks again!
Help! wan to train in Fontana, CA what company is best to work for?

Do yourself a big favor and find a community college in CA that has a truck driving program. Beg, borrow, or steal the money for tuition. If you train though a company, you become their indentured servant for 6-12 months. If you quit or get fired, you have to pay for the training PLUS INTEREST! Lots of interest!!! The state of CA may have a tuition assistance/retraining program in which they will pay for your tuition at a community college.
Good luck! -
Tarpitall, thanks for that advice. i will look into that.

Check with Schneider we have a great little O.C (operating center) there. Schneider requires you go to one of their approved school's but i'm sure there's one around. Schneider's a good company to work for I've been there 7+ years and only have minor complaints. No company's perfect so you have to take the good with the bad. Good luck

The County of San Bernardino has a program that will pay for your tuition if you are unemployed. I know the office is just west of the DMV in Rancho Cucamonga (Archibald/9th St). I had two friends that did this and they make sure you get all your endorsements too.

I personally would go to school outside of a trucking company and then you dont have to be their servant for a length of time. Besides you will get better trained as some companies such as CRST in Fontana have only a 2 week course. As far as companies, check the good and bad lists on this site and narrow it down from there. Several companies have yards in Fontana. Choose one that has safe legal trucks and keeps them maintained and has you running legal. Keep your record clean for a year and pretty much go where you want. Its all part of paying your dues.
