Billy, not to deter you from wanting to chat on a CB but have you considered obtaining a ham license? You may find more people to talk to there that are willing to talk to you. You may also find you can talk longer distances without much power and have more clearer communications. If you are the kind that enjoys chats on radio for leisure (as I believe you do), I strongly encourage becoming a ham.

Now if you still want to stay on CB, well channel 19 is the "truckers" channel. But it might be hit or miss finding someone who is willing to talk to you. Not all truck drivers just want to talk to anyone. Otherwise I really do not know what the "hot spots" are on CB where you are.

Also I noticed you said you have a midland 75 822.....that's a hand held radio, right? Just a heads up, hand held radios as a rule, don't have very good range due to their little antennas, so chances are you're not getting out far enough for someone to hear you.

the midland your talking about, If not mistaken, it's a handheld, personally would get a regular cb, find a good radio guy, for tunning and peak, good antenna and coax (18' in length)

Billy, first and foremost, the antenna on that little hand held you have sucks. That's what kills your range.

Do you own a car? Can you set up a base station in your home? If yes and yes, I can give you some pointers on what to get that will help you reach farther than a mile.
