I've decided to get my cdl and have spent a lot of time looking at different web sites and reading this forum...it's terrific..lots of info...having said that- I decided against Swift and want to go with Schneider. BUT...after talking to a recruiter, I notice they TELL you that (re:the school loan) in the end after 18 months you only pay $900.00, that they take $50 dollars off for every so many miles, but I notice the contract says it's paid in 36 months and your not able to pay off earlier with no mention of this "deduction" and that it's paid off in 36 months. (I know..in a perfect world I would have 4500.00 sitting around to pay for this myself and not have to finance.) But. Has anyone had any experiences with this? Is this true? I notice it's not in the contract (the mileage deduction down to $900.00). Secondly, excuse my ignorance, but what does "Dedicated" "home run" "one way" REALLY mean.
Thanks.

I am also dealing with Schneider and there school as well. From what they have told me is I will owe nothing at the end of my 18 months. I have not received the contract yet but I will make sure I ask about this in the morning.

Thanks for the reply. I spoke with a recruiter last week and he emailed everything to me that day, contract, etc. and I'm scheduled for Oct. class... Would appreciate it if you would let me know how it goes for you...I'm just not sure if this is a "recruiter promise" or for real.

Please read the contracts, they are posted up on schneiders website or you can google for them. Keywords being: schneider training academy contract

I just looked at the contract online. The recruiter I talked to told me something very different. I will be following up with her in the morning. I was told that if you work 18 months with them the only thing you will pay is 900 and that has been taken out of your check. So at month 18 all is said and done. That contract says something very different.

I don't know where you live at, but the only 18 month contract I am aware of is Pennsylvania I think.

NO IT'S 18 MONTHS EVERYWHERE.

Thanks...that's what I wanted to know. It's the same story I got. So I will talk to the recruiter today. I appreciate the response from everyone, but YES, as I stated in my first post, I had a contract, and I did read it, and there began the problem...it conflicted with what the recruiter promised. I was curious to see if anyone else had the same situation, and if so, I actually only paid the $900.00 (as the recruiter promised).
Thanks, again, and Mindbender, keep me posted. Thanks everyone. -
Well found out today Schneider is giving a 4 cent raise starting Sept 30th 2007 to experienced drivers. HHMMMM not bad. But not really, they will be only adding it looks like 1 cent to newbies, but guess we can't really complain to much. They will start at 29 cents per mile for newbies, at least here in Florida that's 1 penny more then now.

At the end of training you'll owe $900, they take $13.59 per week out of your check and they contribute like $55 and change towards your contract weekly. At the end of 18 months you will pay $900, if you stay 2 years they will give you a bonus of $1,000 so stay another 6 months and you get it back plus $100
