I worked for WEL, you will average 2200 miles a week and yes, you will sit a lot. They will send you on 900 mile loads stretched over 4 days. Good equipment, decent to ok people to work with, but PAY is down right awful. I stayed out 6 weeks at a time, never late for a delivery and made no money. You can work at McDonalds and make more money
-
Isn't 2200 miles at .39 cents a mile better than McDonald's?
2200 x .39 = 850
That's better than $20 per hour on a 40 hour week.
So, does WEL run dry van too or are they refer only? I am scheduled for orientation with them soon and would prefer dry van but will run refer if that is my only option. Would be interesting to know what that is like and get the experience for my resume anyway. -
Please disregard my last question. They are refer only although they do haul dry goods, they just push it all into the refer trailers for those loads.
Refer will be a new experience for me for sure. I guess it can't really be that much worse than having to idle the truck to sleep as far as noise goes. -
Most of the newer reefers are pretty quiet compared to what we had years ago..

First of all, you will start out at $.32 per mile but even at $.39 cents a mile, to get the 2200 miles you have to work 14hrs a day, 7 days a week. So grossing $850.00 per week working 98hrs a week, is more like $8.68 an hour, yes McDonald's pays better.
But if you think that is good pay for being away from family, friends, eating crappy food, dealing with #######'s on the road, etc. Go knock yourself out.
BTW - at WEL, they deduct the crap out of your paycheck the first six months for load locks, orientation fees, etc. After taxes, insurance and company deductions (which did not include company advances) i grossed between $300-$500 a week. -
To answer your reefer noise question -- it did not bother me as it drowned out the other noises at truck stops. Some of the older trailers we a bit louder than the new ones but all was fine in that area. It's like anything, you just get used to it.

I always said if your tired enough you'll sleep anywhere !!
-
i have gotten to the point i cant sleep without the hum

they do haul regular dry van, that's all i saw today, and i don't care about the money that's just a bonus for me
