You use an external antenna? The satellites are around the equator, so the farther north you go the more towards the horizontal the line of sight is. Satellites only put out about 5 watts.

From what I understand aren't they both supposed to merger pretty soon and be one ?

They merged a few years ago.

I listened to xm all the way to Alaska.
I also listened to yellowknife. -
They both have the same coverage areas.
