So you are saying that every credit card company gets paid every dime of its bad debt by the US govt.

I don't think so. CC companies write off millions every year in unpaid purchases. That is why interest rates and fees are so high.

They can use the losses against income for tax purposes, but the govt does not cover thier bad dept (unless they get bailed out, which I am totally against)

Yes thats right I just hijacked this ridiculous thread! I dont know where you think you got this info about getting out of a debt you owe ShawnB but you are very very wrong. Go ahead and go to court over this debt and find out just how wrong you are! They probably do try and charge it off as a business loss with the IRS but you still arent off the hook for it!

Central may do their own in house financing.. ok.. I can believe that. And I have also heard that there is a government program that schools, private and company owned have access to funds that is backed by our government to fund the cost of teaching. I don't know all the particulars, but I can only go that far with you. HOWEVER, with that said I am telling you this... You are "dead wrong" about the government. THEY DO NOT PAY CREDIT CARD COMPANIES FOR THEIR CHARGE OFFS. (caps are for emphasis) I don't know where you got you information, but you are wrong. Credit card companies have HUGE losses with people not paying them back. Which is why as someone here pointed out that they charge such high interest rates.

And like I said in a prior post. Central may be a sucky company or not. It's clear you have an issue with them and that is between the 2 of you. But, like I said (and others here too) that you signed papers with a promise to pay regardless of whether you stay working for them or not. So pay up... or don't... I don't give 2 $h!ts about it, again that's on you. Now I'm not going to pretend that I NEVER just stopped paying on a debt. Because I have many moons ago. I even have a small outstanding medical bill right now that I plan on paying when I git some dineros. But my question to you is, why are you going on a forum and whining about all this when you are gunna do what yer gunna do? Unless you intention was to "help" us all out by enlightening us with this "mysterious research" you found. It appears to me that the consensus here thinks you are full of it. It amazes me how some members of this forum are so convicted in their beliefs that they can not even entertain the idea that they could be wrong. In addition, these members almost never post any evidence to back up their beliefs or claims even when the replies to their postings are OVERWHELMINGLY to the contrary.

Where do you read that the gub'ment pays companies for their write off's? When a company does a write off, it just goes off their books as a bad, uncollectable debt. The only money they would get is if they would sell the debt to a collection agency. And then it's usually cents on the dollar that the collection agency buys it for. No government money is involved.
