Help! My Midland 77-104 has NO sound, it receives and transmits but I cannot here what they are saying. Would just go with a different radio but this one fits nicely tucked away in my four wheeler. I'm assuming a capacitor went bad, but not sure.

First things first, try seeing if you can get sound out of the external speaker jack. Plug in a pair of headphones (might only get sound thru 1 speaker) or an external speaker if you have one...if you get sound then the next thing is cracking open the radio. Take a speaker of some sorts and connect a pair of jumper wires to the test speaker leads and connect the other half of the leads to the internal speaker leads....if you get sound on the test speaker, it's likely your coil in your speaker has an open.

I had 2 Cobra radios with non working speakers, turns out the coils had an open to them.

Thanks much for the replies, turns out it was a mic problem. Got a new nicer one ordered and should be good to go now. Pur a jumper in the plug in the correct terminals and she sounds pretty good.
