Trucks that pull for moving companies

    Maybe it's just me, but I was wondering why 90% of the time I see a moving van company (Mayflower, Allied, North American), the trucks usually have huge sleepers on them. They run the same miles as regular OTR drivers right? Are most of them O/O's?

    they also are usually away from home alot more than the usual otr driver. probably 4-5 months minimum for some. gotta make it comfortable when your out for that long.

    I know a guy that retired from a moving van company. He seemed happy with it, but unless I'm missing something, I think that would be a tough TOUGH job. Like a sucky one. Correct me if I'm wrong. I just know how much I hate moving and to be doing it full time for other people... I just don't have it in me.

    Moving is actually pretty good, especially if you're a young buck and don't mind hard work. You don't mess with warehouses and see a lot of the Country you wouldn't normally see. Loads get there when you get them there, running late ? Just call the customer with an update. I've had shippers invite me in to spend the night and one even wanted to ride with me ! (a sexy blonde)

    Some of them do conventions so they sit around for 3-4 days while the convention is being set up and held.

    One of the major reasons is that bedbugging doesn't weigh nearly what freight does. Most of the loads are super light just because most household items don't add up to be that much. This allows the driver to go nuts when it comes to the tractor. Also like the other posters said, those drivers tend to spend a lot more time out then usual.

    I worked bedbug for a year out of HS, and I know a couple of bedbuggers. A lot of these guys who do straight bedbug will go out from the first of April til the end of Oct., then park the truck for 2 mos. and maybe work part-time local for 3 mos. If they are good, they can make that kind of money. If they do the trade-show circuit, they are out upto a year at a time, and will sit for 3 to 6 days at a time.
