So far they haven't stopped making them. I see Rush Peterbilt of Huston has a 2012 389 listed on Ebay.
5 days left, current bid is $90,200, and reserve not met. I don't know what the MSRP is for one, but I'm guessing the reserve is over 100k.

I do like the 379, 389s over the others. Main reason, is they're not plastic. I've seen some of those Aerodynamic rigs going down the road in a strong cross-wind. Looks like it's all they can do to keep the steering axle on the ground, and the cab is ready to blow off the frame. I can't believe that they will get any better fuel mileage when the cab is fighting to keep from going airborne. Hopefully I'll get to drive one those Pete's before they become extinct. The only companies I'm looking at, and have already applied to use them.

I walked into a Rush dealership yesterday and said that on guy had said hoods would be obsolete in 5 years, 15 mins. later, after they quit laughing,:biggrin_2559: I was finally able to get the parts I wanted.

Oh, and they had 2 new aero trucks on the lot, and 7 longhoods, guess someone is still buying them.

We call the 379 long nose here. I don't mind them, but you have to be careful on what in front of you. I only driven a cab over once and I like it. they come in handy in tight spot.

Fortunately for the stock holders of PACCAR management knows where the market is moving.

Hence the expansion, and expenditure for R+D into those models so despised by the real boys. And the movement to production in foreign markets of purchased brands moving their company away from older models.

So to the OP yes they are already obsolete. Like the dinosaurs it will take time for them to die off.

Bravo Tazz, BRAVO!!! What can you tell me about the future of derivative trading and the effects on the current market. Also what do you foresee in the future for real estate? Are you known as the smartest guy in the back row of the truckstop. Do you actually haul stuff in that space aged transportation vehicle in your sig, or just drive it to show others what they should be operating in order to not only become a billionaire but save the planet at the same time.:biggrin_25514:

My W900L at 4.6mpg is more efficient than your bubble truck at 8mpg. Ask me how................:biggrin_25525:

I guess Tazz doesn't know that not everyone drives for a cheap company with generic fleet trucks.

Cabovers are still around! Dirkson and Gardner in CA, pulling 57' vans. Exempt of CA smog laws.

BeN DaViS and Flying Dutchman Thank this.

People dont buy cabovers for better fuel economy. They buy cabovers because they have better maneuvering abilities than long nose trucks. People dont buy long nose trucks for maneuvering abilities. They buy them because they are a better ride on the freeway (better as in more comfortable and they get better fuel economy). This debate has been around for ions. Cabovers arent going away and neither are long nose trucks.

This debate is similar to the blended wing aircraft debate. Theres a reason why the conventional setup lasted as long as it did, and that reason is why itll be around for years to come.
