And for the record, debating Cummins/Cat/Detroit is like debating Chevy/Ford/Dodge. Very silly.

My Cummins ISX will pull like a beast if i start up a grade at 1700-1800 RPM.
    It tachs 2100 in EVERY gear.....And it is a 2011 EGR engine....:biggrin_25522:

The cummins in my truck outpulls my buddy with the exact same truck except he has a cat motor and that's with 60,000+lbs of pipe.

There are so many different things done to all different engines. Tuning makes more difference than what color the block is. I pulled heavy tanker loads through West Virginia with a Mercedes Benz engine that had more umph than the Cat that I pulled a set of doubles with last week across Indiana. Same Freightliner truck. The MBZ was just less restricted. I happen to like the sound of the Cummins idle actually. I thought the ISX was a good engine in the truck I drove with it.

The truck I normally drive is a 2005 kenworth t-600 with a cummins isx...too bad they let someone else drive it last week.It was towed about 200 miles back to the yard cuz the gentleman that drove it overheated it & now it has a cracked head. That truck never ran the same after the oil cooler went out earlier this year

My cummins has 700K on it, gets well over 8mgp and outpulls almost everyone, NO complaints...It also runs 24/7 more than 3wks a month as I don't shut it off as long as I'm on the road...

Don't blame Cummins on this one, blame your company. They are the ones that asked it to be set that way. What is this driveability that is lost when load based speed control is taken off that you speak of, because I have not seen it?

Really, even owner operators with large cars puttin 650 hp to the ground, hard to believe it pulls that good plus gets 8mpg plus it's governed at 65mph, but I'm happy you like it and it gets the job done.

If you ever get the chance to drive the big one it will put a smile on your face that your wife can't duplicate, a MR Haney special will give the finger to anything out there and that includes ALL Cummins especially the 600 signature.

This is not no ordinary Cummins! Plus it was back when Cummins made a good motor...:biggrin_25522:. Well ok the N-14 wasn't bad and the first Signature 600 was a horse.

Why don't you shut it off? How do you figure your MPG's? How much weight do you gross out at?
