it's a very rewarding local job. probably the best paying local gig except for UPS (since they're union). but you need at least 2 years driving experience to goto most fuel hauling companies.

It's the best job I ever had plus the benefits were the best in the industry.

For a rook to find a gasoline hauling job a lot of luck comes into play. You have to first find the company that will hire a driver with no experience then be very persistent in applying for the job. If you fill out a job application and leave it there most likely they will never look at it. Since the better fuel hauling companies are gold there's a lot of drivers that apply for tanker work. Then you have the drivers that have someone on the inside that gets them hired on.

If you do get lucky you're still going to do your time at the bottom so don't give up. You'll learn from that job and you'll know where to set your goals.

Nooo it is forbidden by the Trucking Counsel for rookies to haul gas! First learn how to drive a truck then time will tell if you manage to keep your record clean after two yrs you might have a shot.

What about trying Schneider? They seem to hire rookies for tanker work. Maybe after a few months pulling non hazmat you could transition into fuel. Anyone take that route?

Is that so? I'd rather take some of these guys with no experience and teach him or her our way than to take some of these drivers from Swift and other bottom feeders.

I'm wondering the something, maybe a couple years hauling water? That or maybe doing what I did/do is hauling diesel for the oilfield.

That's what I'm banking on when I go and apply... They see me as Clay on the molding spindle.

I agree with the other posts when it comes to good pay and benefits hauling gas. One aspect though, when I hauled gas, was that the company paid percentage when most other companies in the region paid hourly. It seemed that drivers being paid percentage would push harder to get more loads in and safety would, or could, suffer. Maybe some others can share their thoughhts on this...

Why do you want to learn in a gas truck? Rookies do make more mistakes. Do you have a death wish? You just don't wreck. You wreck and go BOOM! :)

How about getting some experience first? Sure we all we like to jump to the front of the line. But you have to earn your stripes first and get some experience in.

Once you get 2 years in, then you can pursue it. Then you can expect to work 3rd shift with the worst run for a year or two until you get some seniority in.
