28.300 to 29.300 is available for voice communication. There is no special frequency reserved for DX.
Most local ham communication around here is on 2 meters, but there is no legal reason that they could not use 10 meters if they wanted to. However, depending on their antenna setup, they may have a local "dead zone" where local communication is not possible

 

How about 29.600 ? is that not " VOICE "

 

Of course 29.600 is voice. I wasn't trying to offer a detailed listing of the available voice segments, but simply pointing out that there is no special section reserved for "DX" in the 10 meter band.
I also gave a link to the ARRL band plan for those who wanted to look up the complete band plan for themselves.

There are groups on SSB , AM, FM This last weekend I heard stations on AM from europe Asia and the US/CANADA on 29.01 and FM on 29.600 all day .....

Realy cool to hear it this open ....

 

There is no national prohibition or restriction against using ANY HF frequency for local communications---even 75 Meters. So long as one exercises courtesy, permits stations to also use the frequency, pausing to allow break-ins, there is no such restriction. There's a local group that meets on 28.610 almost every night and has done so for 10+ years. There's another group---some of the same 10 Meter group---that meets on 3923 KHZ each morning before breakfast. Some local, some in Georgia and Tennessee. No one objects to it and everyone is welcome (with legal callsign) to join in. Besides, if 10 Meters is dead, WHO's gonna know except the participants?

I do not believe I said that there is a "national prohibition or restriction" on using 10 meters, or any other HF band/frequency, at any time, (except of course that you must have a VALID license), just that here, in the area where I live, it is considered to be "poor operating practice" to use 10M for local contacts, due to the facts that;
1: The band does open for "DX". (the majority of the local operators in my area do not operate on 10 Meters when the band is "dead") this changes rapidly and in a big way when the 10M band "opens up". That does not mean that anyone who "drops their call" will go unheard, or unanswered, but it can happen and I'm sure it sometimes does.
2:There is plenty of "wide area coverage" (locally) via the repeaters on 2M and 70cm, some of it out to more than 110 MILES, (24/7). That is the result of having some pretty high hills, (some of them over 8,000' high) in the area, with 2M and 70cm repeaters on them.
It is the "locally accepted practice" for this area. That is not to say that every amateur radio operator in this area complies with that, or that they are pressured into compliance, that is simply the [mostly] "locally accepted operating practice".

I'm not saying that this should be the "accepted operating practice" anywhere else, just that that is how the majority of the local hams [in the area where I live] are accustomed to operating with regard to the 10M Band. Most of the hams in this area respectfully "reserve" the entire 10M band for the EXCELLENT DX openings that it provides. If someone got the idea that I had that (a national "prohibition/restriction" from using 10M for "local" comm's.), in mind, then that individual has a mistaken impression.
Most of us, (hams in this area), "count our blessings" that it's not necessary/desirable to use, (profane, really), a band that provides such great "DX", for talking to people less than 200 miles away!

 

Heck I run 10, 6, 2 and 223 FM SIMPLEX aand use them LOCAL all the time. I'll see all of you when I get out of the FCC JAIL

 

Many times over the years I have heard locals when the band opened. Had it not been for the locals the opening might have been missed.

Secondly, most locals are on a single frequency or just a few and it not going to affect DX openings.
