CDL Permit

None. If you want Hazmat, you should probably start that process w/ the TSA before heading to Prime. Prime doesn't pull doubles/triples. If you want to go tanker, get your tanker endorsement. My brain is failing now, I can't remember the rest of them.

We don't pull a lot of hazmat, and what we do haul doesn't tend to be very dangerous. We do pull medical-grade hazmat and stuff that requires temperature control. That being said, there are a lot of loads that will get you off of the east coast with either good miles (for the company side) or a very attractive rate (for the lease side) - that the slackers who don't get a hazmat endorsement can't touch. Nothin' like pulling 10k out of Dayton NJ bound for Chicago Heights right after going mty, while the slackers waiting on a load hope the Tropicana load out of Jersey City is ONLY 42,000 lbs - and doesn't send them back up to the northeast!

 

If you want to haul enough hazmat that requires a placard, you have to have the Hazmat endorsement on your CDL. In Michigan at least, there are no endorsements on the CDL permit. Your state's DMV is the place to go for that info for you.

 

I got mine and they gave me three tests and then they asked if I wanted any endorsements. The three tests were, general knowledge, air brakes and three last one was about hooking and unhooking your trailer. I didnt get any endorsements. My recruiter said that was all I needed.
