I was told that the reefer unit had to be 2002 or newer to run out west or have been overhauled to meet the requirements and have a DOT inspection sticker say it meets 2002 standards I just want to know if this was just a rumor or not I have a 1999 reefer I want to start pulling out of Cali can anyone give me some info

That's pretty close, not sure of exact regs, but something like early to mid 2000's CARB certified etc. Should be a CARB website out there.

To overhaul a older unit you are going to spend some money...be better off buying a used newer unit that up on carb

they are apparently starting to check this stuff, too.
I run reefer out of Cali and have been checked at the shipper the last two loads.
Shippers asked me if I was CARB compliant. Said yes. They loaded me. One driver wasn't sure, they wouldn't load him.
Some guy with a patch on his arm, in a uniform, walking around checking reefer units as they were loading or waiting to be loaded.
This was in Salinas and the other time was just yesterday in the produce section of LA.
